What it is: We want to help keep Middletown warm this winter, so we have been collecting donated coats to distribute for free to anyone who needs one. Cookies and warm beverages will be provided while you wait for your turn to “shop”. Other assorted outerwear will also be available.
How it Works: This event is first come, first serve. All you need to bring is yourself! Patrons will receive a number when they arrive and will fill out a form to tell us what you need. When your number is called, you will be assisted by one of our personal shoppers to help you find as many items on your list as possible. We cannot guarantee we will have your size or preferred style available, but are hoping to be able to accommodate everyone. Please find our other FAQ’s here.

Q: What is Coats and Cookies?
A: The Oaks Community Church wants to give you a free coat this winter! We have collected new, used and donated coats and other assorted outerwear, and will be giving them away for free on Saturday November 9th from 12-4pm at the Towne Mall in Middletown. Cookies and warm beverages will also be provided.
Q: How does it work?
A: This event is first come, first serve. Upon the start of the event, individuals or heads of families will get a number according to what place in line you are. You will fill out a form letting us know what types and sizes of outerwear you and your family need for the winter. When your number is announced, you will be assisted by one of our personal shoppers to help you find the items listed on your form. Show up, eat some cookies while you wait, get a coat!
Q: Can I get a place in line early?
A: This event is first come, first serve. You may begin lining up when the mall opens at 10am, but we do not take appointments or reserve spots. We cannot guarantee we will have what you need if you wait until the end of the event.
Q: What if I need a coat but cannot attend the event?
A: At this time, we cannot put aside coats or make accommodations outside the event.
Q: What if you don’t have my sizes?
A: We have a large amount of coats, but cannot guarantee we will have a size that fits you or the style you prefer.
Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Yourself! You do NOT NEED: identification, birth certificates, proof of need, etc. Just show up!
Q: Do my children need to be there?
A: No, not necessarily. However, most of our coats are used, and we’ve found that sizing has varied a lot over the years. You are welcome to try to get a coat that fits your children, but we will be unable to exchange it if it does not fit.
Q: How long will I have to wait?
A: Great question! It is important for us to assist you in shopping and finding the correct sizes. We aim to move quickly, but don’t want to sacrifice personal connection for speed. Our event is from 12-4pm, and we plan to have everyone finished shopping by 4pm. If you need to be somewhere, we suggest arriving early to be at the beginning of the line.
Q: What can we do while we wait?
A: We will have chairs and a kids movie set up in the mall. You are also welcome to wander the mall and shop. You may leave the premises if you wish, but if you miss your number being called, you will be moved to the back of the line.
