What To Expect

We understand that it can be a little nerve-racking to step into a new enviroment, especially when you are not certain about the details. We've designed this page to answer some of the common questions people have about The Oaks, and specifically our Sunday services.

What kind of people make up The Oaks?

When you come to The Oaks, you will encounter a diverse group of people who strive to live in friendship with one another and be a welcoming community to those who are new. There are people from across the spectrum when it comes to faith, and we like it that way.

What if I'm not used to going to church?

That's okay! In fact, that is one of the reasons we started The Oaks - for people who don't normally go to church. We hope to be a place where you have the opportunity to examine, learn and apply the truths of the Bible to your everyday life, and to do so in a comfortable enviroment.

What should I wear?

Feel free to wear whatever you want, although most people dress on the casual side.

What will the worship service be like?

We try to never assume things at The Oaks, so we will always strive to explain what we are doing as we are doing it. We usually will start our services with a couple of songs followed by the pastor's sermon which is always a teaching from the Bible. Following the pastor's sermon is a time of response where people can sing, meditate, pray and where Christians may take communion. The goal of our service is to love and worship God and to make the unchanging truths of God accessible without watering them down.

What does the pastor talk about?

We believe a sermon must be both biblical and practical in order for it to be beneficial. We are convinced that God is actively involved in our world and so our sermons will always seek to demonstrate how the timeless truths of God apply to our day to day living. We seek to present these truths in a way that is challenging yet understandable.  Typically we will preach through entire books of the Bible in order to encounter the whole breadth of God's Word.

What kind of church is The Oaks?

We are an interdenominational church, which simply means that we have a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds. For a deeper look at our beliefs, click here. We are also part of the Acts 29 network.
